Independent presidential aspirant, Dr. Sam Ankrah, has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to draw lessons from the errors committed during the current registration process and implement measures to prevent their recurrence in the future.
He stressed the significance of guaranteeing a seamless and effective registration procedure to uphold the integrity of the electoral system.
Dr. Ankrah observed that the registration procedure has encountered difficulties, including technical malfunctions and lengthy waits, which have led to public frustration and prompted doubts about the authenticity of the exercise. He implored the Electoral Commission to swiftly resolve these shortcomings and establish measures to prevent their recurrence in future elections.
Additionally, Dr. Ankrah emphasised the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process, encouraging the Electoral Commission to be receptive and responsive to public criticism and concerns.
The businessman urged all stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organisations, and the media, to closely oversee the registration process and ensure its fairness and transparency.
Dr. Ankrah's advice to the EC was for them to analyse previous errors, attentively consider public concerns, and implement resolute measures to guarantee a seamless and trustworthy registration procedure.
By doing this, the Commission, he believes, can maintain the faith and confidence of the Ghanaian people in the voting system and help strengthen democracy in the country.
Dr. Sam Ankrah also expressed reservations regarding the precision of the registration data collected thus far. He stressed the significance of guaranteeing the accuracy and dependability of the data gathered during the registration procedure to uphold the integrity of the voting system.
Dr. Ankrah emphasised that errors in the registration data could have significant consequences for the election procedure, including the potential for voter exclusion or the risk of electoral manipulation. He implored the Electoral Commission to implement measures to authenticate and validate the registration data in order to guarantee its precision and comprehensiveness.
Additionally, Dr. Ankrah stressed the need of transparency and accountability in the process of gathering registration data. He urged the Electoral Commission to provide the public with access to the data so that it can be examined and verified. He emphasised the need for precise registration numbers for the credibility of the electoral process and the overall validity of the election outcomes.
He believes that it is crucial for young and inexperienced voters to actively participate in the political process and contribute to determining the future of the nation. Through the act of registering and participating in voting, those who are voting for the first time can actively contribute to the democratic process and exert influence in determining the course of the nation.
Dr. Ankrah emphasised the significance of civic participation and the influence that young individuals have in molding the nation's political environment.
