Libya is currently grappling with a state of emergency, and its healthcare system is facing significant challenges, as outlined in an official statement by Dr. Haider Al-Sayeh, the Director-General of the National Center for Disease Control, which is headquartered in Derna.
The latest available information reveals 55 documented cases of child poisoning attributed to water contamination. Concerns are mounting over the possibility of additional poisoning incidents, which could further strain an already burdened healthcare system.

While a trusted campaign, including Derna Storm Daniel Live Reports, has officially reported a death toll of 3961, 47000 lost, 35,000 displaced residents to date, and US' 403, 257 dollars donations, reports from individuals on the ground paint a grimmer picture. They suggest a significantly higher death toll, with figures surpassing 30,000 casualties as of September 16, 2023.
Dr. Al-Sayeh's statement also sheds light on the division of Derna into three distinct zones following the crisis. The first zone, the flood-affected area, has witnessed extensive damage to buildings, prompting the evacuation of all residents except for rescue teams.

In the second zone, flooding has contaminated drinking water supplies, leading to the evacuation of women and children, while heads of households remain to safeguard their belongings. Meanwhile, some areas have remained untouched by the catastrophe, continuing with their regular daily routines.
The Emergency and General Support Medical Center has deployed 8 teams operating through 4 field hospitals in Derna.

The teams have successfully transported a convoy of children's supplies for schools.
The Ministry of Justice has appealed to the families of the missing individuals to come forward and provide DNA samples for future identification while the Ministry of Interior has initiated forensic surveys and genetic fingerprinting in the affected areas.

The National Oil Corporation continues to send relief convoys to the affected people in Derna, Sousse, and Shahat. They have also supported the operation of the Sousse Hospital.
Press conference organized by the Libyan Government Emergency and Rapid Response Team, monitored by JoyNews' Mahmud Mohammed-Nurudeen, and addressed by Fathi Al-Zeni, Minister of Youth in the Government of National Unity, said the Jordanian rescue team has started its relief operations from inside Derna, the Brega Oil and Gas Marketing Company dispatched convoys of domestic gas cylinders to Derna for free distribution to the affected locals.

Al-Zeni mentioned that the General Services Companies of Misrata and Tripoli have initiated sanitation and pest control operations in collaboration with the General Services Company of Derna. They are providing both expertise and labor for the management of cemeteries in the region.
He said, to address the needs of the affected population, several laundries have been established at the Derna branch of the Social Solidarity Agency.

Moreover, the Ministry of Youth has deployed a relief support team from its Youth Efforts division to the Shuhada area, where they will assist the Emergency and Support Medical Center.
