Let’s rally round sports” – Deputy Minister

Osei Bonsu Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports has urged Ghanaians to rally round sports as the country celebrates her 50th Golden Jubilee. Ghana celebrates 50 years of Independence this year, and the Deputy Minister is convinced the only way the country can make the desired strives in sports is by rallying around it. He said that the current euphoria the country is enjoying largely due to some success stories chalked in the area of sports is an indication that Ghana can achieve more with a unified accord. "The recent euphoria and nationalism the successes of Ignatius Giasah, Vida Amin, Black Stars and Black Queens have been able to generate depict how far sports can take us, when given the total commitment". Mr. Amoah underscored the need for all to exploit the unifying strength of sports and ensure Ghana builds on her rich legacy in her quest to derive the needed benefits. "It is time to rally round sports which unite us as a people". The Deputy Minister said the Black Stars 4-1 demolishing of the Super Eagles of Nigeria last week must give all cause to believe that Ghana is fast rediscovering her past enviable achievements. He emphasized on the need to commit resources and energy into sports achievements whilst building on them. Mr. Amoah said the challenges ahead are enormous and underlined the essence of making commitment the watch word as Ghana strives to be the flagship of the continent. He said to derive the economic, social, international recognitions as well as the positive image and the infrastructural legacy CAN 2008 will bring the country means channeling every support possible into preparations towards the biannual fiesta.
