The Majority Leader in Parliament Mr Abraham Ossei Aidooh on Tuesday expressed the hope that the congress of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect a flagbearer for the 2008 general election would pass off peacefully without any hitch.
He congratulated the minority People's National Convention (PNC) and the Convention People's Party (CPP) for conducting their congress to elect flag bearers peacefully, saying that was a testimony to the growth of democracy in Ghana.
Mr Aidooh, giving his closing remarks ahead of the Christmas break of Parliament, expressed the hope that the NPP would also scale the hurdle and the best person emerge the flagbearer of the party.
Minority Leader Mr Alban Bagbin touched on the work done by the House during the session.
The Speaker Mr Ebenezer Sekyi Hughes thanked the Members, the Press and the Staff of Parliament for their contribution towards the successful work for the session.
The passage of the Anti-Money Laundering Bill and the approval of ministerial nominations and 2008 budget were some of the business considered by the House.
The House had earlier approved a sum of over 7.1 billion Ghana cedis, contained in the Appropriation Bill for 2007 to enable Government withdraw monies from the Consolidated Fund and other public fund to finance its operations for the 2008 fiscal year.
The House is expected to reconvene on January 22, 2008.
