Ghanaian comedian Lekzy Decomic has emphasised the need for pundits who genuinely understand comedy to lead discussions about the industry.
According to Lekzy, this will greatly enhance the quality of conversations and foster a more supportive environment for comedians.
In an exclusive interview on Joy Prime, he expressed his frustration with the current state of comedy discussions in Ghana.
"We need pundits who understand the craft, the business, and the culture of comedy. It's time for us to move beyond superficial discussions and delve deeper into the intricacies of our industry," he said.
Lekzy’s comments come at a time when Ghana's comedy scene is experiencing significant growth, with a new generation of comedians emerging and gaining popularity. However, despite this growth, the industry still faces challenges, including limited funding, inadequate investors, and a lack of understanding from outsiders.
The comedian believes that having pundits who are well-versed in comedy would help to address these challenges.
"We need people who can provide insightful commentary, constructive criticism, and informed analysis, This would not only elevate the discussion around comedy but also provide valuable feedback for comedians looking to improve their craft," Lekzy further noted.
Lekzy’s call for comedy-savvy pundits has resonated with his peers, who share his frustration with the current state of industry discussions.
As the Ghanaian comedy industry continues to evolve, it remains to be seen whether Lekzy’s call for more informed discussions will be heeded. One thing is certain, however: with comedians like him pushing for change, the future of Ghanaian comedy looks brighter than ever.
