The Legon District Police Command on Friday Morning, arrested a suspected armed robber during a routine road block operation at the American House and Adjiringanor junction.
The District Commander In-charge of the Station, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Richmond Bonsu gave the name of the suspected armed robber as Nii Ayitey Boertey (29).
Mr Bonsu told the GNA that during the operation they searched the boots of vehicles plying the route when a black Isuzu vehicle with registration No. GT 8860 U failed to stop and sped off.
He said the police then gave the car a hot chase, which had about six passengers on board.
Commander Bonsu during the chase, the Isuzu car run into a ditch and the occupants quickly run out of the vehicle and started firing at the police, escaping in the process.
The police however managed to apprehend the 29 year-old driver, who gave his name as Nii Ayitey Boertey, a draughtsman by profession.
When the vehicle was later searched by the police, they found a big khaki bag containing 24 pieces of unused cartridges, one locally manufactured pistol, one sharpened machete, two short pump action guns and a short knife.
According to Mr Bonsu, initial investigation is underway and that the suspect would be remanded in police custody to assist in further investigations.
