A Senior Fellow at the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Dominick Agyeman, has advocated the legalisation of prostitution in the country.
He said commercial sex work was a social fact that could not be wished away, adding that legalizing the practice will enable government to control and avert child prostitution.
Speaking on Joy News, he noted that government’s efforts at dealing with the problem of child prostitution will continue to yield little result if the practice is not legalised.
The Sociology Professor believes the National Identification Project is necessary to deal with the problem of child prostitution.
He explained that security personnel will be able to use the Identification Cards to determine whether a particular person is a minor or not.
Prof. Agyeman, therefore called on the government to expedite action on the project since it will be useful in implementing any legislation on commercial sex work.
