Bodycam footage from one of the police officers accused in the murder of George Floyd has been leaked.
Although transcripts from the videos were released soon after the incident, a judge in Minneapolis limited the viewing of the tape to the premises of the courthouse.
However, new body cam footage of Officer Thomas Lane has been leaked.
According to the footage, Thomas Lane along with Officer Alex Kueng was the first to arrive at the scene of the complaint. The other two officers Tou Thao and Derek Chauvin came in to assist later.
The tape shows a detailed minute by minute account of how Officer Lane points a flashlight at a fearful Floyd through the deceased's car window. He immediately replaces it with his gun and continues to aim it at a visibly shaken Floyd.
George is then dragged out of his car, handcuffed and made to sit on the floor against a wall while two of his friends who were in the car with him were questioned by another officer.
Floyd is seen apologizing again and again as he was threatened with a gun. He continues to beg the police officer not to shoot him and explains to the officer that he had been shot before and as such was afraid the same thing might happen to him again.
He is subsequently hauled across the street towards the police patrol car, where he is forced into the backseat of a parked police vehicle.
Floyd resists the move into the back of the car, indicating to the officers that he was claustrophobic and had anxiety attacks and had just recovered from Covid-19.
They manage to push him through the door on one side of the car, simultaneously dragging him out the other end onto the floor, all the while ignoring his plea for compassion.
Floyd tearfully predict his own death saying “I'll probably just die this way' and goes on to say “Tell my kids I love them. I'm dead”.
The most senior officer on the scene, Derek Chauvin who is seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck asks his colleagues if they were okay. Lane answers by saying “My knee might be a little scratched but I will survive”.
After approximately 8 minutes of torture, George Floyd dies.
Following his death, the words “I can’t breathe” uttered by Mr Floyd minutes before he died under the knee of Derek Chauvin became the theme for many protests worldwide against police brutality targeted at African Americans.
