Leadership in Parliament has expressed concern over a recent directive by the Speaker restricting visits to the House.

Prof Mike Aaron Ocquaye's move forms part of measures to stop the spread of Covid-19 but it is being flouted.

Osei Kyei Mensa-Bonsu, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Minister, urged colleague MPs and staff to abide by the measures.

"There has been an increasing number of visitors to Parliament in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, contrary to a directive by the Speaker in line with the Covid-19 protocols.

"Further to this, the leadership of the house has noticed that some members of parliament and national service personnel are reporting for duty contrary to a directive issued by the Speaker," he said.

The Majority Leader added, "Members of the business committee, however, are passionately appealing to honourable members and staff of the public unit service as well as the staff of other institutions working within the presence of parliament to desist from inviting visitors to Parliament until it is very very compelling so to do."

He also announced that the Electoral Commission officials may appear before the house on June 9, to respond to questions on plans for the 2020 elections.

"The Commissioners have programs to follow up at various in the country to undertake some assignments.

They have given the indication that they will be back in Accra on the 16th and accordingly availed themselves for sittings.
