The mortal remains of the late Air Marshal Michael Akuoko Otu has been laid to rest at his family mausoleum at Adukrom Akuapem in the Eastern Region.
His burial followed a solemn final funeral service at the Bethel Presbyterian Church at Adukrom, attended by the top brass of the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies as well as sympathizers.
Family sources told Joy News that ashes of the late Air Marshall were collected for the burial.
The body burnt to ashes on Friday after the military helicopter conveying the casket to Adukrom crashed. The ensuing blaze also consumed the helicopter.
13 passengers made up of relatives of the late Air Marshall and five crew members on board escaped, however one of them was taken to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment after fainting.
The Ghana Armed Forces have instituted investigations into the accident.
The late Michael Akuoko Otu was recruited into the Army in 1943 and later joined the Ghana Air Force where he rose through the ranks to become the second Chief of Defence Staff after Air Commodore De Graft Hayford.
Air Marshal Otu retired from the Air Force in 1971, having served 28 years with the armed forces.
He died on October 8, 2006 at the age of 81.
