The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reiterated the government's firm stance against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, March 26, he emphasised that the government remains resolute in tackling the menace, which has caused severe environmental damage across the country.

He assured that all individuals involved in illegal mining, regardless of their political affiliation, would be held accountable.

Armah-Kofi Buah stressed that the fight against galamsey is not selective and that no one will be shielded from prosecution.

“The fight against galamsey is a top priority of this government, and we will be relentless,” he declared. “We will deal with everyone who is involved, including NDC persons who are involved, if they try us.”

The Minister further explained that the government is implementing both enforcement measures and long-term strategies to curb illegal mining.

He noted that while security agencies are being deployed to dismantle illegal mining operations, efforts are also being made to provide alternative livelihoods to affected communities.

The Minister assured Ghanaians that the administration is committed to ensuring that natural resources are protected for future generations.

He called on citizens, traditional leaders, and local authorities to support the government’s efforts in fighting galamsey.

He stressed that the battle against illegal mining requires a collective approach and urged all stakeholders to work together to safeguard the country’s environment.

“This is a fight we must all take seriously,” he stated, reaffirming the government’s determination to put an end to the menace.
