A university lecturer has appealed to landlords and ladies to help fight against crimes that have been on the increase in the country by exposing suspicious tenants.
A lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and chairman of the Ejisu New Town Landlords and Ladies Association, Dr Osei Opoku, said this at the inauguration of the association at Ejisu.
He said it was time for them to come together to expose the activities of criminals who have been terrorizing them.
Dr Opoku attributed the increase in crime to irresponsible behaviour of some parents to cater for their children's needs and laziness among the youth.
He appealed to the landlords and landladies to find out the backgrounds of people who would approach them to rent their houses.
Dr Opoku said preparations were far advanced for the association, the district assembly, the police and the community to form neighbourhood watch committee to check criminal activities in the area.
Baffour Osei Tutu Amofa II, Kronkohene, appealed to members of the association to be dedicated and committed to their objectives.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Peter Baba, the Ejisu-Juaben District Police Commander, said the police were ready to assist the association to clamp down on criminal activities in the area.
He appealed to the traditional authorities to release land to the police for the construction of a police station at Ejisu New Town.
