Kwasi Nyantakyi urges Ghanaians to tone down expectations

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and newly elected member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi has urged Ghanaians to be moderate about expectations in seeing a total change in the fortunes of Ghana football as a result of his new appointment in CAF. Mr. Nyantakyi said, his election should rather be seen as an opportunity to make meaningful contributions and to articulate the interests of Ghana when decisions are being taken at CAF which will have positive impacts on Ghana Football. Speaking on Sports Link on Joy FM, Mr Nyantakyi said being on the executive committee is not just to pursue a course for only Ghana, but Africa as a whole. “My presence there does not mean decisions will always be taken in favour of Ghana whether we have a right course or not, and it does not mean you will always reign over other Countries who do not have members on the executive commitee," he indicated. Mr. Nyantakyi stated that "you are there to ensure fairness even between any two Countries who do not have representatives on the CAF committee. You are there to serve the interest of Africa and you must hold the spirit of fairness and justice evenly between any two African countries who have an issue to settle at CAF.” By his election, Mr Nyantakyi becomes the fifth Ghanaian after Ohene Gyan, Kobina Hagan, Nana Fredua Mensah and Sam Okyere to be elected as CAF executive committee members from the West Africa Region. On Wednesday February 23, Mr Nyantakyi beat his compatriots, Anjorin Moucharfou from Benin, Tata Adaglo Avlessi of Togo and Hima Souley of Niger to the West African Zone of the Confederation Of African Football executive Committee Story by Natogmah Sugri Mohammed/Hitz FM/Ghana
