Head Coach of Ghana’s under-23 football team, Kwasi Appiah has released the starting line up for his side’s Group A opener against South Africa in the ongoing All Africa Games in Maputo today.
Young goalie Daniel Agyei will be in post with the Ghana Premier League best defender Rashid Sumaila playing alongside Francis Morton, Augustine Sefa and Ahmed Adams. Richard Mpong, whose goal qualified the Meteors for the multi sport competition, will start in midfield alongside Prince Baffour, Abubakar Mumuni and Uriah Asante. A twin prong attacking machinery of Mahatma Otoo and Alhaji Sannie completes the line up.
Speaking to JOY Sports correspondent, Tony Bebli, the coach said “Assessing our boys’ mentality I believe they can rise to the occasion. So far, the boys have been doing very well, coping with the tactics and everything that we’ve been doing on the pitch. We’ve tried to psyche the players up and so I believe we will rise to the occasion and try to defend the name of Ghana.”
The Black Meteors need a win against South Africa to increase their chances of progressing to the knock out stage of the football event. South Africa humiliated host Mozambique 3-1 in their opening encounter last Monday.
Ghana line up:
Goalkeeper: Daniel Agyei.
Defenders: Augustine Sefa, Francis Morton, Ahmed Adams, Rashid Sumaila.
Midfielders: Richard Mpong, Prince Baffoe, Abubakar Mumuni, Uriah Asante.
Attackers: Mahatma Otoo , Alhaji Sanie
