Kwame Baah-Acheamfuor, one of the country’s outstanding Telecommunications/ Information Communications Technology experts was honoured in a virtual on Sunday.
The Board of Trustees under the patronage of Former President John Kufuor conferred the "Eminent Telecom and ICT Pillar of the decade" title on Mr Baah-Acheamfuor.
The event was to celebrate exceptional personalities who have helped shape the telecommunication and ICT sector in the country.
Kwame Baah-Acheamfuor is famous for policy advice on Communication Service Tax, International Wholesale Carrier license, International Traffic Surcharges, Interconnect Exchange as well as Common Monitoring Platform for Traffic and Revenues.
These policies together over the last decade have collectively improved government revenues from the sector for funding for youth employment and rural connectivity programmes.
For the past 20 years he has helped formulate policies, enforce technical obligations for communications service and also assisted with the operations of telecommunication networks.
He has served on Governing Board for the Council for Technical and Vocational Education Training (COTVET) and chaired the Training Quality Assurance Committee (TQAC)-COTVET, responsible for the accreditation of technical and vocational institutions.
The award was presented by Rev Dr Nana Yaa Owusu Prempeh, who commended and congratulated Mr Baah-Acheamfuor for his tremendous efforts and the impact he has had on the industry.
"I am extremely excited about this one because I passion for the IT industry and I know that you are going to go places. I wish you all the best. What you have done in the past, you can do more ahead and I know that with your brains, Ghana is so blessed to have you. Congratulations," she stated.
Giving his remarks, Kwame Baah-Acheamfuor expressed gratitude to those who blazed the trail of change and the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation.
He thanked the country for investing in him recounting the 20 years he spent in the sector.
"Twenty years of holding public service has not been easy...five years with Ghana Telecom (now Vodafone Ghana), building the OneTouch network. Fifteen years with the regulator of the Ministry of Communications," he said.
He thanked his family and my friends for bearing with "me for the too many times I have been away from home. Everybody complains about where are you going next. I know this one, you are all excited about it."
He dedicated his award to all public service workers who have never been on strike.
Kwame Baah-Acheamfuor is an advisor to the Ghana Telecom Rural Connectivity 2016 and Ghana Digital Skills Literacy Project with GIFEC.
He is also a Councilor to Ghana at ITU Council and the Head of Regulatory at the National Information Technology Agency, Accra.
Mr Baah-Acheamfuor is also the current Chairman of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Study Group responsible for Performance, Quality of Service and Quality of Experience in his second term of office; the first African to hold such a position.
He has been involved in the development and approvals of over eighty global telecommunications standards.
