A group of irate youth besieged the premises of a popular brothel in the Adum area of Kumasi, seeking to revenge alleged police killing of their colleague.
Twenty-five year old trader, Kofi Asamoah, was allegedly stabbed with a bottle during a scuffle with some commercial workers.
A police-military patrol team arrived at the scene to arrest the bleeding man as he threatened to retaliate.
In an attempt to push him into their vehicle, one of the personnel shot and killed him. Asamoah’s colleagues then stormed the premises and vandalized property of the prostitutes, mainly Nigerians.
The confrontation between the deceased and the commercial sex workers occurred at about 4:30 am on Tuesday.
Police however claim the deceased attempted to stab a military officer on the patrol team.
Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Mohammed Tanko at the Regional Command says the public should endeavour to volunteer any information contrary to the current police report.
Some residents have called for the ejection of the prostitutes whose presence they claim attracts armed robbers and other criminals to the area.
Police continue to patrol the area to avert any possible reprisals.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Mortuary.
