Former President John Agyakum Kufuor will honour an invitation to be present during Wednesday’s historic official extraction of Ghana’s oil in commercial quantity.
This follows an invitation to him from Office of the President.
Spokesperson for the former President Frank Agyakum stated on Asempa Fm’s Ekosii Sen programme that Mr. Kufuor will honour the invitation to the programme which marks a major milestone in Ghana’s history.
President Mills is to supervise the extraction of the oil, which begins tomorrow December 15, 2010 at the Jubilee Oil Field, off the shores of the Western Region.
Mr. Kufuor is expected to be airlifted from Accra together with his colleague former President Jerry John Rawlings, to the site of the giant oil drilling machine, FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.
Oil exploration dates back to pre and post-Independence era. While Mr. Rawlings is credited with setting up the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) in 1983 to explore for oil, actual discovery was made in 2007 under Mr. Kufuor.
However Mr. Frank Agyakum says the former President, under whose tenure the product was found in commercial quantities, has not received any notification as to the exact role he will be playing on the day.
