The Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) is engaging the Suame Magazine Industrial Development Organisation (SMIDO) to foster academia-industry collaboration.
It is envisaged to culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, which will allow the sharing of knowledge between the two institutions.
The executives of SMIDO have therefore paid a familiarization visit to the Faculty of Engineering and Technology’s state-of-the art workshop at the Adako Jachie campus.
The workshop is equipped with the latest machinery in areas of electronics, automotive, milling and machine design.
Vice dean of the faculty, Dr. Prince Owusu-Ansah was hopeful the collaboration will be crucial in ensuring effective partnership between the formal and the informal sectors for sustainable development.
“We wanted them to come and see what we have here so we can sit down and sign an MOU which will help us exchange knowledge and generate income,” he said.
Chairman of SMIDO, Albert Cophe believes the collaboration will boost particularly Ghana’s automotive industry.
“It’s a nice collaboration and we’re going to pick it from here and see how best we can move our industry,” he said.
