Kotoko eye league revival as FCPPL restarts

The Ghana Premier League bounces back with the second round fixtures on Sunday.

The FCPPL had been on a five-week break after a successful and entertaining first half which produced 254 goals from 120 games.

Clubs have had the chance to allow players to relax their muscles and re-strategize for the remainder of the season where some would be fighting for the laurels while others chase survival.

Leaders AshantiGold after dominating the first round at the top are set for a test of character and resolve as the likes of Aduana Stars, Berekum Chelsea, Medeama WAFA and Asante Kotoko are vowing to overthrow them from the summit of the table.</p>

A reverse of the fixtures will see the last round of games in the first round begin as match day 16 on Sunday June 7.

Seven of the games will however be honoured as leaders AshantiGold’s away fixture at Hearts of Oak has been deferred to next week Wednesday due to the latter’s continental assignment in the Caf Confederation Cup the same weekend.

Holders Asante Kotoko will be fancying another win over bogey side Heart of Lions at the Kpando Park. The porcupine warriors thrashed Lions 4-0 at home on match day 15.

Centre-back Abeiku Ainooson has been talking about the team’s readiness for the second round and the Kpando challenge.

“We need to start well as we mean,” last season’s best defender said.

“We did not break camp after the first round due to the need to change our unacceptable fortunes. We deserve better than where we currently place and we have worked so hard during the break to ensure we are strong title contenders.”

“Now is the time to put all the preparations to work at Kpando. It is a difficult place but defeat is no option for us. We are good to go and hopefully we will carry the day,” Ainooson ended.

The second half of the 2014/15 FCPPL has been scheduled to run through from this weekend to end with match day 30 fixtures on September 13, 2015.
