Kumasi Asante Kotoko secured the three maximum points at the expense of Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord in their outstanding mid-week Onetouch Premier League played on Thursday at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
The Porcupine Warriors ensured a 2-1 victory over Feyenoord after going down first in the thrilling encounter. The result restores Kotoko to second position on the league table and three points from leaders Accra Hearts of Oak.
It was Feyenoord’s Abdul Haruna who got the match opener in the 53rd minute for his side with a long shot.
Kotoko quickly regrouped in attack and got the equalizer in the 60th minute through a header by Douglas Nkrumah.
Not satisfied with the equalizer, Kotoko made two quick changes with Ofosu Amoah coming on for Prince Amponsah while Daniel Bonfa was substituted for Nana Arhin Duah and they combined effectively but failed on many occasions to go past a strong defense of Yaw Frimpong, Afful Harrison and Alex Sowah of Feyenoord.
Feyenoord equally carried the game to Kotoko after Mark Sekyere came in for Jordan Opoku with Noel Nyasugbor replacing Dominic Adiyia in the 80th minute.
Nkrumah was on target again to add Kotoko’s second goal with a brilliant header in the 82nd minute from a Stephen Oduro cross.
Class One referee Emmanuel Mordey from Hohoe officiated the match.
Before the encounter some supporters of Kotoko heckled sports journalists from the Graphic, Ghanaian Times and Ghana News Agency refusing to allow them entry into the stadium.
The journalists were Akwasi Ampratwum, Brong-Ahafo Regional Editor of Graphic Communication Group, Ian Mortey, Regional Correspondent of New Times Corporation and Dennis Peprah, a Reporter of the Ghana News Agency.
Even the presentation of their accreditation cards could not sway the visibly angry supporters who further threw insults at the journalists saying they were ordered not to allow any print media to cover the match.
