Yakubu Mohammed was the hero on his Obuasi return as he netted the only goal of the game for Asante Kotoko against regional rivals Ashantigold in a replay of their matchday four Ghana Premier league fixture.
The match was postponed with the score tied at 1-1 after a heavy downpour with Amos Addai cancelling out Yakubu Mohammed's early strike but he was not to be denied a second time as the Miners failed to restore parity.
The game was played with a derby feel as the first half produced no goals but lots of thrills and drama.
Zdravko Lugarusic's men capitalized on the poor defending of the hosts to secure all three points.
Felix Annan produced a string of spectacular saves to keep the score intact and ensure Kotoko returned to Kumasi with maximum points and the bragging rights.
The result means Kotoko go joint top of the Premier League with Aduana Stars with the Dormaa side having a superior goal record.
