Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall musician Konkarah JahVybz is advocating for greater recognition of the reggae music genre in Ghana.
At the launch and listening session of his new album From Afar, Konkarah called on the media and industry gatekeepers to increase their focus on reggae, emphasizing its significance and potential within the local music scene.
Contrary to the belief that reggae and dancehall are in decline in Ghana, Konkarah JahVybz asserted that the genre is far from moribund. Instead, he encouraged stakeholders to promote the genre more actively, showcasing its talents and vibrancy. His sentiments were echoed by multiple award-winning musician Samini and veteran industry figure Daddy Bosco, who both attended the event. They urged continued support for reggae in Ghana and encouraged Konkarah to persist in his efforts.
From Afar, the latest album by Konkarah JahVybz, is a 15-track project that explores a diverse range of themes, including consciousness, repatriation, lovers' rock, and sound system culture, as well as incorporating elements of Afrobeats, Amapiano, hip-hop, RnB, dancehall, and reggae roots. This eclectic mix is a deliberate strategy by Konkarah to appeal to a broad spectrum of listeners across different music markets.
The album features collaborations with renowned artists such as Anthony B, Suezway, Osagyefo, Topgyal Renner, Ras Charmer, and others. Released on July 26th, the album is available on all major music platforms for streaming and download.
Accompanying the album are several music videos, with the first being for the title track "From Afar," which sets the stage for additional visual releases. The launch event was well-attended, with media personality PY Addo Boateng, musician Topgyal Renner, Osagyefo, and various other industry players present to support Konkarah's latest work.
