The Konkomba market in Accra is on fire, barely a day after the Kumasi Central Market was razed by fire.
It is not immediately known what may have caused the fire outbreak.
Joy News correspondent Yaa Asamoah, reporting from location said the "fire is huge" with the "heat unbearable."
Even though fire personnel from have arrived at the sprawling market constructed mainly of wooden structures, they are unable immediately to battle the raging fire. The firemen have already called for reinforcement.
Already the intense is said to have tore through a good number of the structures, which also serve as homes for many.
Owners of structures adjoining the burnt ones were reported to be evacuating their property, much against the advice of the police to keep clear and save lives. Others were also attemping to salvage what they could of their destroyed belongings.
From far away Adabraka, several hundreds of metres from the fire, a thick smoke is seen piercing the skies as the fire continues to reduce the wooden stalls to ashes.
This not the first time the market has been gutted by fire. Close to the slum affectionately called "Sodom and Gomorah" the market has seen a series of fire outbreaks in the recent past.
The market is noted for the production of cooking oil.
Only on Thursday, the Central Market in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, was also razed to the ground by fires suspected to have started either by a lit candel or faulty electrical wires.
City authorities have closed the market indefinitely to protect what remains of traders wares from rampaging thieves, a number of who were picked up by police as they attempted to loot property.
The fire was only put out early Friday as a result of the messy arrangement of stalls in the market which prevented fire personnel from reaching the fire in good time. They eventually had to pull down parts of the walls of the market to gain access.
