The Koforidua Prison could not account for 10 suspects remanded by a circuit court for defying the nationwide ban on small-scale mining when JoyNews visited.
Thirty-two suspects were picked up by the Small Scale Miners Association taskforce after two weeks of swoops in eight mining communities in the region.
The court granted bail to eight of the suspects, remanding twenty-four to prison custody.
But checks by JoyNews at the Koforidua prison reveal the 'galamsey' suspects were ten short of the number.
Warden of the Prison who was infuriated by cameras at the penitentiary told JoyNews to go seek for an explanation from the Police about the missing illegal mining suspects.
Commander of the task force who was angered by the revelation lamented about the development.
