The police in Koforidua in the Eastern Region are asking residents to remain calm and go about their duties without fear after dismissing rumours of serial killings.
Rumours of the activities of an alleged unidentified group carrying out serial killings in the regional capital was said to have generated some panic amongst residents.
According to a resident, Joseph Enchill who called into Joy FM, the group was said to have been already responsible for at least two deaths and were threatening more.
He said the body of a pregnant woman was discovered in the Blue Stick area while in a nearby town, Adawso, there were reports of a failed kidnapping attempt of three children.
Joseph Enchill said there were posters in town by the said group announcing a campaign to seize 37 people, ‘dead or alive’.
Joy FM correspondents who followed up on the leads said the issue appeared to be a hoax as everybody seemed to have heard about the threats but nobody knew where it came from, while attempts to reach alleged victims ended up as a phantom chase.
