Sources close to government have contradicted media reports that the former Director of Police Operations ACP Kofi Baokye has been reinstated.
The sources told Joy FM's Super Morning Show team that in fact, chances that Kofi Boakye will be reinstated are very slim.
The sources have however not completely ruled out the possibility of the hardworking police officer indicted during cocaine investigations in 2007, getting back his job.
Following a Police Council meeting Wednesday to discuss the subject, many media reports suggested the active police boss was back.
But government sources disagree. They say a firm decision on the matter has yet to be taken.
Kofi Boakye appears to be an albatross on the neck of government. After the Georgina Wood Committee recommended his prosecution, the previous NPP government apparently could not muster the needed courage to prosecute him.
ACP Kofi Boakye's fate remained on the balance until the last days of former president Kufuor when he ordered that Kofi Boakye should be reinstated and all his rights and privileges restored.
Some government spokespersons then complained the former president deliberately hanged a noose on the neck of government.
