An engineer is making a case for transport innovations that promote environmental sustainability.
Chairman of the Sectorial Advisory Board of the Regional Transport Research and Education Centre Kumasi (TRECK) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. John Bernard Koranteng-Yorke thinks the use of electric vehicles, expanding public transit networks among others are essential in this direction.
“I am still referring to innovations that promote environmentally sustainable modes of transportation, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and minimize environmental impact.
“This may include promoting the use of electric vehicles, expanding public transit networks, supporting active transportation modes such as walking and cycling, and integrating renewable energy sources into transport systems,” he pointed out.
Dr. Koranteng-Yorke also added, “Innovations leveraging cutting-edge technologies, such as intelligent transport systems, data analytics, and digital platforms, to improve the efficiency, safety, and reliability of transportation networks.”
Speaking at the 2024 TRECK innovation week in Kumasi, he again called for “innovations in policy-making and governance mechanisms that support the implementation of equitable, resilient, and sustainable transportation strategies”.
The TRECK innovation week is under the theme: “Promoting transport equity, resilience and sustainability.”
The three-day event will serve as a platform to showcase ground-breaking research, cutting-edge technologies, and transformative ideas that are shaping the future of transport engineering.
It will feature seminars, panel discussion, and networking opportunities.
“This week stands as a testament to our commitment to driving innovation that has the potential to revolutionize the movement of people and goods in our part of the World,” Deputy Director of TRECK, Prof. Yaw Tuffuor said this on behalf of Director of TRECK, Prof. Hellen Essandoh.
Provost of the KNUST College of Engineering, Prof. Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko encouraged participants to share ideas to drive the transport sector.
“Engage with your peers, industry practitioners, researchers, exchange ideas, and spark collaborations that have the potential to transform our world for the better,” Prof. Francis Kemausuor said this on his behalf.
