The Asokwa District Court in Kumasi has remanded 29-year- old kenkey seller into police custody for stabbing a pregnant woman to death at Aburaso.
Adwoa Pokuaa, variously called ‘Adwoa Bawumia’, Adwoa Dokono’ in the community, is said to have inflicted knife wounds on the deceased without any provocation at Aburaso in the Atwima Kwanwoma District.
She pleaded guilty and would reappear before the court presided by Akua Adu Boahen on June 16, this year.
Making his case before the presiding judge, the prosecutor, Police Inspector Moore Ankrah said on May 23, at about 4:00 pm, the suspect, who admitted to have taken in some alcohol beverages, went to the deceased’s family house to look for one Akosua Pokuaa, her friend, whom she claimed was keeping her room key, but met her absence.
He further added the suspect then asked the deceased who was preparing her dinner, to follow her so she could buy her a drink.
The two were going when the suspect spotted the said Akosua Pokuaa and demanded her key, and angrily slapped her, claiming that she made her suffer in looking for her.
The deceased who was not happy with the behaviour of the suspect questioned and warned her to refrain from such act.
This, according to the prosecutor generated into a verbal confrontation between the suspect and the deceased in the presence of Akosua Pokuaa, who is now a witness in the case.
The prosecutor said the suspect who was by then very furious, quickly rushed into her kitchen which was about 50 metres away from where they were quarrelling.
She returned with a kitchen knife and without any provocation inflicted multiple deep wounds on the deceased.
Inspector Ankrah said the deceased who was bleeding profusely, became unconscious and was rushed to the Suntreso Government Hospital for treatment but died few minutes after admission.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Suntreso Police. Inspector Ankrah, said in her caution statement, the suspect admitted having inflicted the wounds on the deceased in self-defence, but did not intend to kill her.
