NBAF POSITIVE IMPACT ON GHANA
This year's celebration of the National Black and Arts Festivals (NBAF), which was instituted since 1988 in Atlanta, USA, has ended in the Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta - Georgia.
Over 10,000 people, largely of Africa descent, from around the globe were brought together to partake of the historic event.
The week long festival featured among other things a comprehensive exhibition of art and crafts, music, lectures and entertainment by participant black communities from Brazil, Ghana, Senegal and Africans in the Diaspora including white sympathisers from Europe and Asia.
Various stances mounted by artists and vendors to showcase the rich Africa heritage and the unique display of artefacts provided the forum for both black and white celebrants to promote and share the cultural legacy of people of African extract.
In a goodwill message, on behalf of the government of Ghana, Hon. Mr. Samuel Sarpong, the Mayor of Kumasi stressed the need for inter-ethnic co-operation and cultural consciousness among Africans all over the world as basis for the dream of African's oneness to come to fruition.
“We can only assert our dignity as a distinctive class of people from a common stock through a resolute and a firm adherence to our cultural values and belief systems which have always kept pace with the ever-changing global technological advancement,'' he said.
Humanity, he noted, whether black or white is of one origin and ancestry and it therefore behoves on Africans to assume their proper roles in the mainstream of global affairs for the due recognition and status to be accorded them in the comity of nations.
The mayor expressed concern over the rate at which the influx of non - African cultures have been allowed to adulterate that of the black, adding if the trend should continue Africans stand the risk of predisposing themselves to cultural identity crisis.
He pointed out that it is time black communities subject their cultural resources to good management practices to earn the admiration of the world in terms of economic values and social respect.
Mr. Sarpong used the occasion to announce that Kumasi would replicate the festival in November 2011 next year which would be the first of its kinds in Africa to be hosted as the kumasi International Black Arts and cultural festival ( KIBAC ).
