Three dialysis machines, worth more than GH¢1.5milion, have been installed at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to serve patients battling kidney diseases.
Dialysis is a type of treatment that helps the body remove extra fluid and waste products from the blood when the kidneys are unable to function.
Purchased from Nivaansh Medi Qas Ghana Limited, with the hospital’s internally generated funds, the installation brings to seven, the number of dialysis machines currently in use at the Hospital.
During an inspection tour by the board members and management at the weekend, the KATH CEO, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, hinted at the arrival of five more of the machines early next month to make up to 12, courtesy of Springfield and Ghana Airport Company Limited.

He said the Health Ministry was also making efforts to bring some more devices to the KATH, including engaging CEOs and engineers of the Teaching Hospitals in the country to ensure equipping them with the devices.
The members also inspected the ongoing three-storey building for patients’ relatives hostels which was about 80 per cent completed.
Prof. Addai-Mensah pointed out that on completion, the building could accommodate over 100 persons.
He explained that the Hospital’s essential mandate did not include the provision of such a facility, but it became very necessary to enter a build operate and transfer arrangement to end the loitering of relatives of patients at the Hospital.
Moreover, the refurbished physiotherapy centre at the KATH was also inspected and according to the CEO, efforts were being made to fix the limb fitting centre too.
Earlier at a brief ceremony, Mr Vishal Kaul, Managing Director of Nivaansh MediQas Gh Limited, presented some medical consumables to the Dialysis Unit, the Biomedical Department-KATH.
Mr Vishal disclosed that the machines come with a two-year warranty and would be closely monitored by a team from his outfit.
