The Chief Executive of the KAMA Group of Companies, Dr. Michael Agyekum has counseled that the country would be better off if Ghanaians would cutout wasteful expenditure in their daily lives. Speaking to the finalists of the MyBusiness 2010 entrepreneurship mentoring reality show Thursday morning, Dr. Agyekum catalogued personal expenditures he believed could be avoided without any loss to the individual. “I have observed that Ghanaians spend so much money on food and then we waste it to the extent that husbands believe that their pride is [measured] by how much food is thrown into the dustbin, [forgetting] it is money. If you go to parties, you watch how much food we throw away.” He said if the quantity of food thrown away is quantified in monetary terms and “you the husband are throwing away Gh2, the wife GH1, the children GH3, add it up and multiply by days,” Ghanaians will realize how much is being lost through food waste. He cautioned the budding entrepreneurs not to be overambitious and grow their businesses organically. He stated that one of his biggest regrets as a businessman is starting off with a bank loan. “I realized I was working for the banks so if it is possible avoid” starting your business with a bank loan “because soon the year ends and the interest will come on top of the principal and you know in Ghana our interest rate is so high, it is now above 25 percent.” He also stressed that having the right attitude is very crucial for success in life. There will be a repeat broadcast of this morning’s session on the Joy News channel on MultiTV tonight at 8pm. Source: Joy Business/Ghana
