The EEA Ghana is a national award honouring the outstanding contribution of individuals or organizations promoting engineering excellence and innovations as well as engineering students showing great potential for research.
The award was established to reflect on and recognize the valuable contributions that individuals and organizations make, to inspire their continued involvement and those of others, and to promote the key role of the engineering profession in public life.
It also recognizes valuable contributions and extraordinary performance in all aspects of the engineering profession. The EEA provides strong awareness of the profession among related professions and the general public.
This year's award was under the theme: Engineering: Resilience in the face of climate change and pandemic.
President of the Ghana Institute of Engineers, Rev. Prof. Charles Adams called on the engineering professionals to uphold excellence in their endeavors.
He believes consistent efforts in achieving excellence set an individual or entity apart and ensures their longevity.
“We as the GhIE exist to uphold standards and excellence. We want to be sure that this country will build infrastructure that would last. We want to build so generations after us will benefit from the monies that have been invested in infrastructure and systems in the country. Anybody can do anything, but to have excellence and maintain it, you must be intentional about it. Anybody can have excellence once a while, but you have to have it as a culture,” he said.
Kwasi Debrah was awarded with a plaque and citation for his immense contribution as a non-engineering person promulgating engineering through journalism for societal impacts.
