Birthing Centre Project at Mangotideke at Agotime-Ziope in the Volta region has received a major boost with support from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) towards its completion.
The Project initiated by Dr Divine Novieto, a lecturer at the Ho Technical University, was in response to a JoyNews documentary that highlighted the plight of the people at Mangotideke.
The construction of the Centre which has reached roofing stage has attracted the attention of the Ho District Society of ICAG who have donated roofing sheets, nails and wood worth ¢6,500. The national association also made a cash donation of ¢5,000 to aid finishing works at the site.
According to the Chairman of the Ho District Society of the Institute, Kennedy Kormla Deh, members were touched by the documentary and when an appealed was made to them by the initiator of the project, they did not hesitate in helping.
He was optimistic that the donation would go a long way in seeing the project completed.
“The babies that would be given birth to in this village, who knows, some of them could take over from us as Chartered Accountants. That is why we have decided to be part of this project,” he said.
The Chief of the village who also serves as a Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA), Torgbui Moses Gbor is particularly excited that soon the women there would not have to deliver in the open as the project attracts more supports towards completion.
Community members could not hide their joy at the stage the project has reached so far.
For Mavis Normenyo, a mother, there could not have been a better time to be a mother at Mangotideke.
“Soon I will not have to give birth in the open, I will do so in this facility with joy,” she said beaming with smiles.
For Ben Klu, an opinion leader of the community, even though he has hanged his gloves of producing children, he is reconsidering a possibility of having a child who will be born in a dignified environment.
The Initiator of the project Dr Divine Novieto called for more support for the facility from benevolent individuals and organizations.
