Tottenham striker Harry Kane hopes to build on his impressive campaign last term in the forthcoming Premier League season.

Spurs' season starts at Manchester United, who were rumoured to be chasing Kane's signature after his tally of 31 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions last term.

The 22-year-old earned England recognition, scoring on his debut against Lithuania, and aims to prove he was no one-season wonder. Kane told CNN World Sport: "I can take a lot of confidence into this year, knowing that I can do it against the big teams and anyone in the Premier League.

"So I've got to try and keep working hard and keep trying to improve, and take that into the games and hopefully keep scoring."

Kane also spoke of Spurs' desire to break into the Champions League places. "Who's the top four?" he said.

"The top seven or eight teams can all fight for Champions League spots. "We came fifth last year which was a good season for us. We had a cup final in there as well. For a young team that is a great experience.

"We have set a building block now that we will try and improve on this year. We are really looking forward to next season and seeing how far we can go."

Kane has been tipped to lead England in attack for years to come and had an interesting take on the much-debated 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which is likely to take place in winter.

"I think we will be a lot fitter that time of year compared to the end of a long season. It could be beneficial for us," Kane said.

"It will be another experience, something new, and it will be something to look forward to."

His manager Mauricio Pochettino believes White Hart Lane is exactly where Kane needs to be if he's to become 'one of the world's best'.

“Kane is excited to start the season with us," the Argentine said. "Any doubts about his commitment are gone. He is delighted to stay with Tottenham.

"He is a big supporter of the club. I think he is very happy and we are very happy he is with us. "If you can do it in England and Europe, you are doing it in the best competitions in the world. I think we have very ambitious players now, the younger ones in the group, like Harry.

“We need to keep this mentality. We try to build a very strong group for the next few years to try to achieve important things. Harry can manage this pressure. He is young, but he is very mature. He is in a very good way to become one of the best strikers in the world.
