Ghana’s favourite entertainment channel, Joy Prime on MultiTV is embarking on a massive health awareness walk on Saturday, February 24.
The health walk, which is part of activities to celebrate the month of love, is aimed at educating Ghanaians on keeping a healthy heart while keeping people fit.
According to the World Health report in 2001, Cardiovascular diseases accounted for 9.2% of all deaths in the African region and in sub-Saharan Africa, cardiovascular disease (CVD) has risen dramatically and has become a leading cause of morbidity and mortality.
In Accra, Cardiac disease admissions and mortality have increased progressively over the past decade, with heart failure as the most common cause of admission.
As part of programmes lined up for the month of February and the season of heart (love), Joy Prime, in collaboration with the National Cardio Thoracic Centre, Islamic Medical Association of Ghana and the Ghana Health Service, is championing the RACE4HEART campaign.
RACE4HEART is a Joy Prime’s initiative to create awareness of heart-related diseases and “raise a healthy nation through exercising and participation in healthy living.
There will be heart screening after the health walk within the Legon campus,” Joy Prime said in a statement.
“Have you ever experienced the sensation that your heart has skipped a beat or suddenly started to race or even pound? Come meet your Cardio expect as they educate us on issues of the heart,” the channel urged Ghanaians.
The Joy Prime RACE4HEART is open to all Ghanaians and it comes off at the Athletic Oval of the University of Ghana, Legon on Saturdays February 24, 2018, at 4:30 am.
All the presenters on Joy Prime will be in attendance. “The first person to be at the venue will be given a special prize,” Joy Prime promised.
“Don’t just take care of your heart but gift a healthy heart to that special someone,” the channel urged.
