The JOY FM 90s Jam, Ghana’s ultimate New Year kickoff event, once again delivered a night to remember as thousands of music lovers gathered to celebrate the iconic sounds of the 90s.
This year’s event brought a refreshing twist, taking place for the first time at the scenic Pleasant Gardens in Dzorwulu in Accra, setting the stage for a vibrant night of nostalgia.
Since its inception, the JOY FM 90s Jam has carved a special niche in Ghana’s entertainment scene. The event began on the rooftop of the Silver Star Tower, later moving to the City Galleria Mall near Accra Mall, before finding a new home at Pleasant Gardens. Each venue has contributed to the event’s evolving charm, but this year’s location elevated the experience with its serene ambience and spacious layout.
The energy was palpable as thousands of young and young-at-heart revellers thronged the venue, eager to relive the magic of 90s music. The night was powered by Ghana’s top DJs and MCs, including DJ Black, Lexis Bill, Andy Dosty, and Nii Ayi Tagoe, who kept the party alive with a masterful mix of timeless hits. Their dynamic performances ensured the crowd was glued to the dance floor, singing along and dancing to their favourite 90s tracks.
The playlist featured a wide array of 90s classics spanning pop, hip-hop, R&B, and dancehall. Songs like "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls, "California Love" by 2Pac, and "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men kept the crowd singing along.
DJs also treated fans to dancefloor anthems such as "Rhythm Is a Dancer" by Snap! and reggae classics like Chaka Demus & Pliers’ "Murder She Wrote." Local favourites, including hits from Daddy Lumba and Reggie Rockstone, ensured the Ghanaian flavour was well-represented.
Food vendors added to the festive atmosphere with a tantalizing assortment of dishes, including kebabs, pork, yam, and other savoury treats, ensuring guests were fueled for a night of non-stop fun.
As the DJs spun hit after hit, the dance floor became a spectacle of excitement. Partygoers, dressed to impress, showcased their best moves to everything from highlife and hip-hop to reggae and R&B. The vibe was electric, turning the event into a pulsating carnival of music, laughter, and dance.
For those in the cabanas and VIP sections, the night offered a mix of relaxation and revelry. Guests alternated between enjoying their cosy spots and joining the dance floor to groove before retreating to their seats for a breather.
The JOY FM 90s Jam has consistently proven to be more than just a party—it is a celebration of culture, music, and the shared memories of an unforgettable era. This year’s spectacular turnout further solidified its status as a cornerstone of Ghana’s entertainment calendar, leaving attendees already anticipating next year’s edition.
For those who missed it, the JOY FM 90s Jam remains a must-attend experience, promising bigger and better moments in the years to come.
