The Head of Programmes of Justice FM, a radio station based in the Northern regional capital, Tamale, has been threatened with death.
Moris Mega said he received the death threat personally while hosting a regular programme at the radio station, while his work colleagues and other sources have also confirmed receiving similar threats meant for him.
Mega who confirmed the threats to Joy News’ Northern Regional correspondent, Mahama Shaibu, said the threats followed discussions about the arrest of five police officers for armed robbery which were published in the newspapers.
Apparently, one of the accused policemen, Bawa Abdul Jalil, hailed from Tamale.
According to Mega, even though he did not review the specific news item published by The Chronicle and Ghanaian Times newspapers, callers to the morning show programme he hosted repeatedly commented on the subject.
“Later on a call came in and said I’m warned I should stop people from discussing that issue otherwise somebody would die. Well, we just took it as just one of those things, then on Monday morning I had a call from one of the men in the newsroom that there is something happening and that he had had some information from a source at a meeting with certain people who are planning that since I have allowed that issue to go, then they know where I sit, they know where I go everyday, they will meet me there and then beat me up and lynch me.”
Mega said he had been given details of the meeting which he has forwarded to the management of the station who are handling the matter with the police and Bureau of National Investigations.
