Ex-world bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko is pursuing his return to the crème of world boxing beginning with a tune up fight against Juanito Rubillar.
The matchup with the Filipino journeyman is slated for May 30 in Texas.
Agbeko will be stepping into the ring for the first time since December 2013 when he lost to unified world champion Guillermo Rigondeax in a one-sided bout.
Rubillar has won 49, lost 22 and drawn 27 while Agbeko has won 29 times in 34 fights.
"Rubillar has a lot more fights than I do and he's very experienced. He is a southpaw too and fighting a southpaw is not an easy task compared to fighting an orthodox boxer. I believe he will also come in to prove a point," the Ghanaian, known as the Fresh King, tells Joy Sports.
Agbeko has been training under some big names and hopes to hit top form to clear the Rubillar hurdle before jumping on a big fight.
"I have trained with Roger Mayweather for sometime and I have learnt from him. And working with Roy Jones has been a good experience too. Roy is one of the best in this sport and he knows a lot in boxing. He has enlightened me in many areas."
