Ghana youngster Jordan Ayew gave his pre-season form a boost by scoring in Olympique Marseille’s 2-0 win over Vannes on Friday.
The 18-year-old opened the scoring when he converted a spot kick after captain Mahamadou Niang was fouled inside the box
Ayew made his debut for the club last season and scored one goal en route to winning the French League title.
He believes a good pre-season form can earn him more playing time in the Ligue 1 this term.
“I felt really good as I have been working with the pro group for over a year now. Pre-season preparation is going well. Everyone was tired. I really wanted to take the penalty, I felt that I would succeed. I asked the captain and he said: “Go ahead, it’s your ball”. It’s nice to score because I am a striker, but it was just a pre-season friendly. I hope I will have more chances to play,” Ayew told the club’s official website.
He could also play in this season’s Uefa Champions League after winning over head coach Didier Deschamps with his striking exploits.
Ayew, the third son of Africa football legend, has been invited to join Ghana’s Under-20 for their African Youth Championship qualifier against Namibia on 25 July.
