Award-winning Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo, has launched his campaign for the NDC primaries in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.
The celebrity cum politician made this known on Sunday, through a publicised artwork in which he announced his 'second coming'.
Speaking in an earlier interaction with MyJoyOnline.com on Saturday, the actor said he had been engaging the party's delegates and other stakeholders about his ambition.
According to him, his priority is to engage party delegates before going to formally announce his candidature.
Declaring his interest in a Facebook post on Sunday, he said his decision follows "extensive consultation" with God, family and party faithful in the constituency.
In 2020, John Dumelo contested the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat against the NPP's Lydia Alhassan.
Despite his loss, he was praised for putting up a competitive fight.
His announcement brings to a total of three aspirants in the upcoming primaries in the constituency.
Earlier, the CEO of the Ghana Movie Awards, Fred Nuamah also announced his intention to contest the seat.
This came after a former Vice President of the University of Ghana SRC, Moses Baafi Acheampong, had announced his intentions early on.
Shortly after declaring his intention to contest the parliamentary primaries on Monday, the past student leader, Moses Baafi Acheampong, told MyJoyOnline.com that he has been nursing the ambition since his days as a student activist.
According to the lawyer cum pharmacist, he is unhappy about the huge development deficit within the Constituency despite the ‘hegemony’ of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set 13th May, 2023, for both presidential and parliamentary primaries.
This was announced by the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, at the party headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
According to the party, parliamentary candidates will pick a form at a cost of GH¢5,000.00, and pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢40,000.00.
