A farmer, Mr Ebenezer Otu has been jailed six months in hard labour for stealing a cock valued at ¢60,000 at Aboaboso near Ateiku in the Western region.
He pleaded guilty to stealing.
Presenting the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Joseph Agbedor of Ateiku Police said the complainant is a peasant farmer residing at Aboaboso and the accused is also a farmer and a member of the neighbourhood watch dog committee staying in the same village.
He said on May 1, at about 2000 hours the accused went to the house of the complainant, Mr. Kofi Kpewu and stole a cock.
The son of Kpewu and an eye witness in the case heard the usual noise of the cock and came out from his room and saw the accused with the cock in his armpit.
The son then went and informed his father and a report was made to the Chairman of the Unit Committee and the accused was arrested and handed over to the Police.
