Mr J. H. Mensah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East, has decided not to seek re-election to serve another term.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Sunyani East Branch and the Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he informed then of his intention and said, "I now intend to serve the people of Ghana in other spheres."
It said until the mandate of the Fourth Parliament ended, he would continue to work with the Executive Committee of the NPP to complete the numerous projects initiated for the welfare of the citizens of the Sunyani municipality.
"I will also take full part in helping to select a candidate and elect to Parliament, a worthy successor to carry forward these endeavours," the letter added.
It expressed the hope that apart from the party winning the parliamentary seat, members of the Sunyani East Constituency would redouble efforts to secure the election of the NPP's presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as President of the country.
