Ghana's Group B opponents at the African Nations Cup, Ivory Coast, beat Tanzania 1-0 in Dar el Salaam on Monday in a pre-tournament test match at the National Stadium.
Elephants captain Didier Drogba scored the only goal on 37 minutes in a match that attracted close to 60,000 spectators.
Ivory Coast fielded the strong squad that gave a gist of their starting line-up against Burkina Faso on 11 January in Cabinda.
Ghana play Ivory Coast on 15 January in the second Group B matches before playing Burkina Faso in the final fixture.
Ivory Coast coach Vahid Halilhodzic said : "I was surprised by how good Tanzania were but I had warned my players not to underestimate them. They (Taifa Stars) were fast, technically sound and I am happy that we won."
Ivory Coast will play Rwanda at the same venue on Thursday before leaving Dar es Salaam on Friday for the Orange Nations Cup Finals in Angola.
