It is a common stereotype that men struggle with expressing their emotions and tend to suppress them.

Many societies and cultures have traditionally placed emphasis on men being strong and independent which has created pressure for men not to show vulnerability or weakness.

A young man from Nsawam, Confidence, has shared how this perception is greatly affecting him mentally and how he has been weeping for the past five months because he has no one to talk to.

“For the past five months, I have been weeping like a child, because of these trauma and torture that I’m going through, I think we must begin to reorient our society and not compel men to harbor pain and bitterness within them,” he said.

Speaking on Joy Fm’s Super Morning Show which discussed the issues of men speaking up, he said men are being forced to believe that they are supported by society but on the contrary, it is a world of women and women always have an upper hand.

“We have been made to forcefully think that this is the world of men but ironically it is a world of women.”

“Women exploit a lot of the vulnerabilities of men to their own advantage, yet you dare not speak,” he lamented.

Confidence indicated that a lot of suicides and attempted suicides by men all result from this stereotype and also explains why men die earlier than women.
