Despite challenges to her claims, MP for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, insists that she has apologised to her colleague Collins Dauda for attempting to push him off his chair during the dissolution of the 7th Parliament.
Speaking at the Appointment's Committee vetting, she described her reaction as "instinctive"; resulting from an incident moments before, where the chair she was sitting on had been pulled from under her.
She further explained that before she was pulled out of her chair, Collins Dauda had repeatedly told her to move from the seat she was on to join the other NPP MPs on their side of the House.
“I was there when the MP for Ashiaman in the company of several other gentlemen walked up to me, pulled out the chair I was sitting on and I fell on the floor. When I got up I just linked it up with what Hon. Collins Dauda had been telling me previously.”
“I am not saying this to justify what happened. The events of 7th of January 2021 are a blot on the reputation of the 8th parliament. I know that subsequently, we all realised that things got out of hand and we could have acted differently,” Mrs Owusu-Ekuful said.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful said she inferred that the Asutifi South MP may have connived with his fellow NDC MPs to push her off her chair, thus her reaction.
“I put it on record that subsequently I have been made to understand that my inference from his earlier comments and the unprovoked assault on me at the time, were not linked and I have apologised to him,” she added,
However, MP for Asawase Muntaka Mubarak challenged her claim, saying that based on his interaction with Collins Dauda, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful had not apologized.
But she stressed that she had had several engagements with Mr Dauda in which she apologized. She further revealed that Mr Dauda had even promised to replace her necklace - destroyed during the scuffle - on his return from his next Hajj pilgrimage.
"I have had several conversations with him (Mr Dauda) since the incident occurred and expressed my regret. I will be surprised if he said that I didn’t apologise to him.
"But if he may have overlooked the apology then I am using this platform to offer my unconditional apology to him.”
Meanwhile, the Communications Minister-designate said she is yet to receive an apology from the Ashaiman Constituency MP, Ernest Norgbey who pushed her off her chair.
