The Convention People's Party (CPP) flagbearer for the 2024 election, Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah has stated that their focus is not solely on gaining power but on doing what is right.
According to her, the issue lies not with political appointees, but with the ideologies and policies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She emphasised that it is the principles these parties stand for that set them apart.
Mrs Kumankumah noted that for the CPP, it’s not just about joining any party for the sake of it; otherwise, they would simply join a larger party.
Speaking on JoyNews AM show, Mrs Kumankumah stated, “We believe in Ghana. We believe in the youth of this nation. We believe that Ghana must work, and it must work to justify the struggle that our fathers went through to bring our independence and freedom back to us.
“It is not just about trying to get into power for me. It is about getting into power to do what is right for the people, and that is where I find my problem. Today, as I sit here if there is any measure with any party and they say, ‘Nana Frimpomaa, we know that these are the things you believe in that would make Ghana work under your administration, however, we think we should come together and use this person,’ I would agree 1000%.”
She referenced former President Kufuor, who once said it was better for a party to be in government than in opposition, noting that the CPP has been in opposition for a long time.
However, Mrs Kumankumah emphasised that this is not the time for the CPP to align or associate with just anyone simply for the sake of gaining power.
"It is not necessarily about being selfish or trying to be greedy. No. It is about the principles we stand for. It is about the things we believe in. It is about what we can do to save this country."
