Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has praised the plans outlined by Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to pursue a major railway development project from Tema to the northern parts of Ghana.
During his recent tour of the Ashanti Region, Dr Bawumia announced his intention to prioritise railway development, focusing on a strategic route from Tema, passing through Boankra to the North, and extending to the Western Region.
In an exclusive interview with Asempa FM, former President Kufuor commended Bawumia’s proposed railway development plan, alongside other policies he has detailed, which Kufuor believes are crucial for the country’s transformation.
"A few days ago, I was listening to him, and he spoke about his plans to prioritise railway development," said former President Kufuor. "He mentioned a route from Tema through Boankra all the way to the North to open up the country, utilising the iron deposits, which is an excellent idea and the right direction for Ghana."
Highlighting why Dr Bawumia should be the next President of Ghana, former President Kufuor emphasised that the Vice President, who he believes is well-prepared for the Presidency, has demonstrated a deep understanding of the key issues necessary for modern governance and for leading national transformation.
"We need someone like him who comprehends modern trends in global affairs, technology, and digitalisation. These are the trends in developed countries like America and others," former President Kufuor stated.
According to Kufuor, Dr Bawumia’s focus on infrastructure, technology, and modern governance aligns with the current global demands, making him a suitable candidate to lead Ghana into a new era of development.
He expressed confidence that with Bawumia's understanding of economic and technological advancements, the country could experience significant progress under his leadership.
