Alhaji Yussif Issah, an Islamic Scholar and Vice-Chairman of Jamiatu Al-Hdiyatu Al Islamiat, a local Islamic Organization has presented drugs, laboratory equipment and other items worth 12,000 Ghana cedis to the Muslim Community in Wa.
The drugs and laboratory equipment were valued at GH¢6,000 (Sixty Million cedis), while the other items, which included eight motorbikes and about 500 copies of the Holy Koran were also worth GH¢6,000 (sixth million cedis).
Speaking during the presentation ceremony at the Wa Central Mosque on Wednesday, he said the items were donations he received from philanthropists in Egypt during his visit to that country during the month of Ramadan last year.
Alhaji Yussif said the drugs were meant to support needy patients at the Islamic Clinic in Wa, while the motorbikes would be distributed to Islamic preachers in Wa to alleviate their logistical problems in their outreach programmes in the rural communities.
Dr Hani Mortada Husein Al Hawari, Medical Director of the Clinic, who received the drugs and laboratory equipment on behalf of the management of the Clinic, said the items would go a long way to meet the medical needs of poor and vulnerable people who patronized the services of the Clinic.
According to him he was using all opportunities and resources available to him to ensure that the Clinic attained the status of a hospital as evidenced by the infrastructure projects that were currently in progress there.
He thanked the donors for their kind gesture and assured them that they would be used for the purposes they were intended.
