Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has included uncapped Real Madrid forward Lucas Vazquez in his 23-man squad for next month's European Championship.

Del Bosque had earlier named 19 players who would definitely be going to the Euros but elected to take further time to consider the merits of those players who were involved in Saturday’s Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Sergio Ramos, who scored the opening goal in Milan, and first-choice right-back Juanfran, who missed the decisive penalty were certain picks - as was Atleti midfielder Koke.

That left it to a straight fight between Isco, Lucas Vazquez and Saul Niguez, and the 65-year-old rather surprisingly elected to take the uncapped Lucas Vazquez. "We knew that we had to drop several players and I can only take 23," Del Bosque told a news conference in Salzburg on Tuesday.

"I wanted to balance the squad and I think I've chosen the best. With these 23 players we are covered."

Also missing out was Dani Carvajal after the right back sustained a leg muscle injury against Atletico. Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin, 21, was confirmed earlier in the day as Carvajal’s replacement.
