Mrs Efua Amo-Dare, national president of the Council of Catholic Women, at the weekend advised women against step siding men in their development efforts.
She also said the quest for empowerment and progress for women did not mean disrespect for their husbands and men in the society.
Mrs Amo-Dare was speaking at the inaugural mass of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) of the Koforidua Diocese, in Koforidua at the weekend.
She emphasized the need for respect and unity for both sexes as a prerequisite for the development and progress of society.
Mrs. Amo-Dare reminded women that their role among others "is to maintain dignity of married life, motherhood and parenting for peaceful co-existence."
She noted that the role of women was crucial to ensure the proper functioning of families and society.
Mrs Amo-Dare urged women to compliment and support each other in diversity towards the development of the Church and society.
Mrs Janet Dede Akwetey, president of Koforidua DCCW, said the inaugural ceremony helped in defining the role of lay women in the diocese.
She encouraged Christian women to contribute objectively to the development of the Church of society.
Reverend Father Paul Abankwa of the Diocese, urged leaders of women's group not to lord it over their members to ensure the realisation of the objectives.
Earlier, the DCCW presented a quantity of rice, sugar, toilet soaps, assorted fruits and provisions worth 100 Ghana cedis to the St Joseph Catholic Hospital in Koforidua.
